Dear Young Diplomats,
We at Diaspora Dialogues support the creation and presentation of new fiction, creative non-fiction, poetry and drama that reflect the complexity of Toronto as seen through the eyes of its richly diverse writers.
One of the ways in which we do this is through Shorthand, our monthly webzine that provides much-needed exposure to the work of young and emerging writers from the Toronto region.
To this end, please see the submissions call below (and attached) and kindly forward to young Canadian writers in your network. We look forward to reading the creations of your young constituents.
Thank you,
Rebecca Fisseha

SUBMISSIONS CALL
Folks refer to you as “youth”. You’re somewhere in the age range of 16-25, love to express yourself through writing, and have a poem, short story, play, excerpt from a piece of creative non-fiction or novel, or a comic (or all of the above!) to your name.
Now what?
New Voices, a special section of Diaspora Dialogues’ monthly webzine Shorthand, is ready to receive and present the writings of Toronto’s next generation of richly diverse young writers.
Are you one of these new voices? If so, this is your chance to be heard!
Send us your work for an opportunity to see it published alongside those of established Canadian writers as well as emerging writers from our celebrated mentoring program.

• Your work must be original and not previously published or produced.

Submitting your work
• The deadline is the 15th of the previous month (Example: October 15 for the November 15 issue).

• You can submit to multiple categories, but are limited to one entry per category. (Example: you can submit a short story and a play, but not two short stories.)
• Submissions are reviewed by a peer youth editorial board. Please note that your writing may be edited and that we reserve the right to publish our edited version without your prior approval.
